DPPD: Breaking Barriers: Assistant Chief of Police Sharon St. Martin Retires After 45 Distinguished Years Paving the Way for Women in Law Enforcement. Congratulations!

Assistant Chief of Police Sharon St. Martin retires after 45 distinguished years in law enforcement before a standing-room-only audience.
Sharon’s departure leaves a void that is tough to fill as women in law enforcement are a rare resource nationwide, comprising a mere 13% of all officer positions. She was rarer still as one of the few to achieve the rank of Assistant Chief.
Sharon was a pioneer for women in policing, beginning her career more than four decades ago. Empowering women in law enforcement was a priority throughout her career. She regularly recognizes her contemporaries in law enforcement, emphasizing the value of women in front line policing positions, supervisory roles and non-sworn, support positions.
She is a champion of community policing, as well standardizing processes and maintaining high ethical standards for all law enforcement agencies.
Her many accomplishments include, but are not limited to:
45 years in law enforcement with 38 years, 5 months and 4 days at Deer Park Police Department
o Graduate of the 236th session of the FBI National academy
o Graduate of Bill Blackwood Leadership Command College
o Graduate of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program
o Numerous awards and accolades from the community, city and department.
Sharon was the first female promoted to Lieutenant, Captain and Assistant Chief for the City of Deer Park Police Department.
The showing of love and support at her retirement reception is a great indicator of how much she will be missed.
Enjoy your retirement, Chief. Congratulations on a job well done. The legacy you leave continues to shape the direction and philosophy of this department, and others, for generations to come.
